Vasa Order of America, District 12 (Northern California) is holding its second annual International Aquavit Competition. Entitled Akvavit Kryddat Brännvin World Championship, the competition is held at Sveadal (Swedish American Resort) in Morgan Hill, CA. There are three categories of competition: Most Traditional, Best Tasting and Best Presentation. For Most Traditional, the aquavit has to either feature Dill and/or Caraway as a main flavor, and it cannot be sweetened. The other two categories are open, although we ask that you label your bottle if you choose to use wormwood.
There is no entry fee for the competition, and no cost to participate. There is a day use fee of $15, which entitles you to all of the activities for the day, lunch and Swedish appetizers. Swedish themed dinner is another $15. Camping is encouraged and is very inexpensive.
In 2015, there were 140 attendees and nearly 50 entries into the competition. For more information or to RSVP contact FylgiaLodge (at) gmail (dot) com.
